Gillian C. Rose | Full Biography

Gillian C. Rose, IACC, AIA, IAC-B, is a color advisor, interior designer, and keynote speaker who creates synergy between color and our environment. She holds a Degree in Environmental Design from the Parsons School of Design and a Professional Designation in Color Design and Consulting from the IACC.

Gillian founded Gillian Rose Colour in 2009 to broaden our color horizons through design work and color consultancy.  Gillian Rose Colour provides a neuro-psychological approach to light and color in the fields of architecture, interior and industrial design, and communications.

Her deeply held desire to create holistic environments brought Gillian to the world of color sciences. She learned during an extended period of childhood illness that colors in the environment could offer serenity and support well-being. Her professional background in color science was jump-started by the legendary Frank Mahnke, founder of the International Association of Color/Design Consultants (IACC), with whom she studied the fundamental principles of color science within architecture.

Having been immersed in many cultures, in many lands, Gillian brings a global perspective to all her endeavors. Originally from Toronto, Canada, and later living in Victoria, British Columbia, she began her lifelong travels early on, settling in New York City as a teenager. She relocated to Los Angeles in 2018.

Gillian opened her design studio in 1997, specializing in luxury projects across all scales and types. Her portfolio includes residential spaces for clients and art collectors in Lower Manhattan (TriBeCa and Soho), multiple residential projects on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, and private vacation sanctuaries in East Hampton & Beaverkill, New York.

Gillian maintains long-standing connections with many of the iconic firms for which she has worked. Her career includes time spent with: Kohn Pedersen Fox, where she led the programming efforts for the MoMA redesign; the Office of Thierry Despont, where she led the design of “the most expensive home in the world,” which currently claims The Duke & Duchess of Cambridge as next-door neighbors; and Rafael Viñoly Architects, where she led the interior design of many prominent projects: the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center, the Nasher Art Gallery at Duke University, and the Cleveland Museum of Art. Gillian received Interior Design Magazine’s: Interior Designer of the Year - Award in 2005 for her work on The Boston Convention Center.
