Overview

As Director of Interiors for Rafael Viñoly Architects, Gillian Rose led the interior development of the building interior’s components.

This 1,700,000 square foot structure, if stood end to end, would be 43 stories tall. The private spaces are symmetrically located along either side of the main hall, lower three-story blocks house 84 meeting rooms, pre-function spaces, and food service facilities.

Creating a humane, navigable, simulating and welcoming environment was at the forefront of all interior design considerations.

The color palette was derived from the landscape of Greater Boston and it’s home state of Massachusetts. The local sky, the sea, and the famous foliage find expression in the color palettes for all materials and surfaces, design and or selected.

Introducing a palette of greens, aquas and deep blues, the main lobby was designed to greet visitors as simulating and exuberant as if walking into the surf.

The public spaces on the west side took their inspiration from autumn season, with intertwining shades of saffron and persimmon. The east side of the buildings were inspired by the heathers, and symphony of greens, only visible in springtime.

The building’s extensive anteroom spaces were defined with custom wall textiles with color patterns simulating the colors of the sun; from the bright colors of sunrise to the enveloping warmth of a New England sunset.

80,000 square foot of custom carpet was designed to delineate each of the building’s mammoth public zones. Each of the (9) carpet patterns have a custom palette, scale, and orientation to provide inclusion, energy, and balance.

This 40,000 square foot Grand Ballroom and its accompanying pre-function areas were designed to embrace, entertain, and entice by a color palette inspired by the fruits and berries native to New England.

Infusing shades of raspberries, plums, cherries, conjure up a feeling of intimacy and warmth, beneath a 100-foot-high ceiling clad in perforated elm, stained in a shade of amber honey.
