Overview

The Barbizon 63 is a distinctive neo-Gothic work of architecture that was built in 1926 supporting women working towards independence.

Given Gillian’s expertise in luxury interior design, Gillian Rose Interior Design, LLC was invited to develop the interiors for Barbizon 63. Working in concert with Douglas Elliman's marketing team and the developers, Berwind Property Group, our design scope included: the lobby design; exterior architectural/interior elements and finishes; an optimal promotional apartment layout; all kitchen layouts, (27 distinct kitchen types); and 30 bath types throughout 66 condominium units.

In keeping with the building’s illustrious history, the lobby was designed to evoke the experience of entering a European Salon.

The entrance lobby is defined by a rich palette of materials including a variety of Portuguese limestones integrated into the nautical compass floor.

The concierge desk is clad in a hand-applied Venetian plaster which emulates the warmth of the limestone floors and walls. Stepped ceilings, nickel-plated scalloped moldings, and deco-stepped base moldings exude a sense of European luxury and light.

The entry lobby sets the stage for the sumptuous public spaces within Barbizon 63. A seating alcove for guests is paneled in rosewood veneer, offering a respite for more private conversations.

Every unit offered at least 3-bathrooms: A Master Bath, Powder Room and from 2 to 4 additional, full bathrooms. The Master Baths feature resilient heated floors, and walls lined in sheets of white glass. Intimate portal surrounds articulate the vanity spaces. The Power Rooms feature custom designed marble pedestal sinks, hand chopped Calcutta mosaics, and Versailles patterned rosewood flooring. The additional bathrooms featured crystalized glass block and Carrara floor tiles.
